Answer:
Whatever the channces maybe, only those who apply have a chance of
winning. So why not apply and take a your chances. After all it's
free!
About the same as the UK national lottery jackpot! We tried 3 times, no
joy, got GC through employment.
Lots of people are eligible to apply. But chances of winning are pretty
slim, if you ask me. There are probably some statistics out there if
you google information on the DV lottery.
My alien husband's 2 brothers have applied for 2 years in a row with no
win yet. We'll keep trying.
What you think doesn't affect whether or not it's free. There is no fee
to enter the lottery.

I have met several people who won the DV lottery. I have yet to meet anybody who
won the state lottery...
Divide the number of applicants by the number of visa's is a crude
approximation.
Seem to remember it was circa 1 in 100.
I won the DV2006 lottery on my 5th attempt, I think there were something
like 8 million entries accepted for 50,000 visa's.
So you have a chance but a slim one, but there is no harm in entering it
as its free.

Always struck me as odd that the does not seem a correlation between
those countries where Death to USA is prevelant chant and not wanting to
emmigrate here.
One of those odd inconsistances.
Increases greatly, though, if your "chargebility" is to a place whose
citizenry ain't too enthusiastic about moving to the good ol' US of A.
hahaha...well, in Iran, the people we see chanting Death to America on
TV are not representative of the vast majority of the population who are
desparate to immigrate to America.
