Question:
I misplaced my citizenship certification, what is the fastest or/and
cheapest way to apply for the u s passport??
Answer:
You need the original so you will have to send to INS for a new
certificate.....that is the only way you can get a US passport as you need to
show proof that you are naturalised
THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED TO BE LEGAL ADVICE. I AM NOT A LAWYER. I
DON'T EVEN PLAY ONE ON TV!
This will sound like 20/20 hindsight, but here goes.
Either a Certificate of Naturalization or a US passport can be used to
prove citizenship. However, it is far easier, less time consuming and
less expensive to replace a passport. Therefore the new citizen will be
wise to:
1. Make at least one photocopy of the Certificate.
2. Apply for a passport as soon as possible. You will have to send in
the certificate along with the passport application. They will send the
certificate back along with the passport.
3. Now keep the original certificate in the safest place possible,
possibly a bank safety deposit box.
It is illegal to photocopy your naturalisation certificate unless it is done by
INS or other state department authorised to copy it, and as I am looking at
mine right now it says so right on the certificate.
