Question:
I'm going to write my cheques to the BCIS - however am just wondering
how people who are folloying the directions on the forms would have
known this. Are they trying to intentionally trick us, or are they
really that unorganised???
Answer:
I'm sure the problem is that they have 100 Billion forms from before
that they are trying to use up... conserving the trees somewhere I
guess... since the amount of redundant forms they make us fill out isn't
helping the environment!
Ain't that the truth :D
When I rang the BCIS to ask them this question a woman told me to make
the cheque payable to the "US Treasury". So obviously that is wrong!
The last thing you want is for your visa application to be held up
because the cheque is wrong.
I made mine out to "Immigration and Naturalization Service" at the end
of July and it cleared my bank just fine!
I also made my check out to "Immigration and Naturalization Service" on June
03, and it also cleared the bank with no problem.
Right now, the rules have been relaxed quite a bit on that. BTW, under
the former fules, checks made out to "INS" would often be rejected since
it wasn't made out to "Immigration & Naturalization Service."
I've noted that they have finally gotten "Bureau of Citizenship &
Immigration Services" stamps to place over whatever you write. This was
in the bank statement I got just last week.
