about renewing my british passport in
the US |
Question:
I have just filled out form "C1" which I got from the britainusa.com
website. I have filled all the form out except the countersignature section.
It says I need either a british citizen of standing to sign for me, or, if
there are no british citizens here to do that, I could have someone of
similar standing in whichever country Im in to do it. Problem is, it then
says that they must not be my family. Does that just mean direct family? The
only person who fits those categories would be my father-in-law who is a
university professor. Since he has a different last name will this work? or
are they likely to find out he's my father in law and call that "family"?
One other question - is it REALLY $185 just to get my passport renewed? The
instructions on the site arent all that clear.
Answer:
family includes extended family, so
you can not use your father-in-law.
If you don't know anyone locally who
meets the criteria, I suggest you
wait and submit the application when
you find someone who does! Things
depend, if your renewing, and your
not a kid or changed dramatically
since your lastpassport, then you
don't need to get it countersigned,
but if don't look anything like you
did in your last passport, you'd need
it signed. If you really do need it
countersigned, get your doctor or
a cop to sign it.
