Question:
My fiance is in Ontario Canada and
will be going to the consulate in
Montreal for her interview. We filed
the original forms with the Texas
service center. Has any other couple
here used these two? And do you
know how long it takes from the
time of the approval from the service
center to the time packet 3 is recieved?
I know not all times are the same
but i'm just wondering, so we can
have an idea. Thank you.
Answer:
Maybe I am incorrect in my assumption,
but I believe that all immigration
proceedures for Ontario go through
Nebraska, and not Texas. So you
may have a long wait. Someone else
will correct me if I am incorrect.
With regard
to Montreal, I believe that they
are rather speedy - once packet
3 is received at Nebraska (Texas?)
I believe the time to wait for interview
in Montreal is about 2 months right
now. But this is for I-130 petitions
- K1's are usually a lot faster....
We used both the Texas service center
and the consulate in Montreal. There
are 4 service centers through out
the states that do the K-1 visa
and the location of the USC determines
which center they use. My fiance
lives in Florida so we had to use
the Texas service center.
I came from
Ontario. There are 2 U.S. consulates
in Canada that process K-1 visas,
Montreal and Vancouver. My fiance
mailed the petition on Nov.22/99
and received notice of action on
Dec.1/99. The petition was approved
on Jan.28/00 but they took the majority
of January off for holidays. Once
it is approved in Texas then they
send the paperwork on to Montreal.
This took almost a month. Montreal
received my papers on Feb.23/00.They
had package 3 out to me and I received
it on Mar.7/00. Once you send the
checklist in to them indicating
that you have everything required
for the interview and they receive
it, it can be anywhere from 2 weeks
onward before you receive notice
of an interview date. I sent my
checklist back on Mar.13 and my
interview date was April 19. They
usually give you 2 weeks notice
of the interview date so that you
have time to make arrangements to
keep the appointment.
