Applying for a Canadian passport, I have not had one previously, I don't know what I should do?

Question:
I'm applying for a Canadian passport. However, the form says that I have to enclose a Canadian Passport within the last 5 years. My problem is I've never had a Canadian Passport before. I've never really traveled out of the country where a passport was required. I've traveled to the States before but a simple health ID card and Canadian Citizenship card was enough. Anyone know what I should do?

Answer:
My first thought would be that you are filling out a form for a renewal and perhaps you need a different form. I don't know. I'm in the same boat as you for this one. Hi I'm Marianne. ;-) (lame I know) I will be watching to see what people have to say for this. It says "Any Canadian passport or travel document issued to you within the last 5 years" Since you do not have one, you do not need to worry. The form says "Enclose any Canadian passport or travel document issued to you within the last five years." Seeing as you haven't been issued with a passport within the last 5 years, section 3 of the form does not apply to you. Agreed - you are filling in the wrong form (renewal).

You will be required to send in your Birth Certificate. Make sure you have a valid guarantor as well. You don't need a previous passport to apply. wherever you are reading this is for renewal There is no passport renewal process. It is the same application whether or not you have one currently. The request to send in any passport issued in the past five years is to ensure a Canadian does not own two valid passports at the same time.
