| Question for French people already in US re: passport |
Question:
My passport expires in January next
year. Hopefully by that time I will
be in the US. Are there French embassies
/ consulate in the US can renew passports
or deliver new ones ? Are there French
people out there who can tell me of
their experience regarding this ?
Wondering whether to renew it now
or wait until later if it's easy.
Answer:
I can't say for certain if the French Consulate in the US will renew your
passport. I called up the French Consulate in NYC on the web for you
http://www.franceconsulatny.org/index.htm but it there was no mention of
renewing passports. Perhaps because I sought the English version. Perhaps
if you looked at the French version you might have better luck than I did.
The French Consulates will be able to get all your documents for you,
including your passport, birth certificate (long forms too from your
local maire), etc. And there are several consulates listed on the web,
and two really informational sites are the New York Consulate and the
Chicago Consulate as well. Hope this helps.
