How a USC living in the US goes about gets a passport ?

Question:
Can anyone tell me how a USC living in the US goes about getting a passport ?? ie which Department etc is application made through.

Answer:
Department of state: http://travel.state.gov/passport_services.html Easiest way in the world to do it if you have about 14 days to spare before traveling is to walk into your local post office, pick up the one page application, bring a copy of your birth certificate to prove you are a USC, complete the application, write the check and either put it in the mail or if there is a passport window at your post office (some of the larger ones have this) drop it off.

The K1 FAQ is now at http://www.k1faq.com www2.apex.net/users/thehydes You must apply in person for your first passport, or if you previous passport was valid for less than 10 years or issued more than 15 years ago. You need to show state photo ID, give birth certificate (they will mail it back to your with your passport), and maybe social security card also.

You need to submit two passport photos also, and the required fee for a first-time passport. Most main post office branches have passport applications and do application acceptance. County, state, and federal courthouses probably have an acceptance office also. Look in your phone book, under the government pages.
