How do I get a Green Card to work in the US. I don't want to stay forever, but I would like to live and work in the US for a few years. I have been told that you can apply for a Green Card from any where in the world, except the UK.

I think you're referring to the GC lottery. Well UK is not alone; other countries excluded from the lottery are: Canada, Philippines, Taiwan just to name a few. Maybe they'll include these countries on the next lottery
if there is one.
