Question:
I was wondering if someone could give me some indication as to how
much I should be charged for a Green Card application fee. I met with
a lawyer yesterday in Los Angeles and he told me that he could file my
application for a total of $ 2250 US (that would include INS fees as
well as his support until the interview). Is that a fair price for
this process? How difficult would it be to file this myself? Btw, I am
legally in the US on an E-2 Visa and I am getting married to a US
citizen, so I think its a very standard filing process. If anyone
could give me any indication I would highly appreciate this.
Answer:
If that fee includes all fees and is a set price it is a good price.
Make sure you get it in writing, though.
to be honest, if you can
afford to pay an immigration lawyer (don't go for just any lawyer make
sure they are an immigration speciality lawyer) then it is money well
spent to make sure everything is done properly with no forms being
returned because you have filled them in incorrectly.
After the interview, depending on whether you have worked illegally,
etc. you will have to pay fine. So i don't think hei rate is that
good. The INS fees until interview would only include the fees in
filign I-485. Go to www.immigration.gov; clcikc on the USCIS link
ther. Click on forms, click on I0485 and find out the application fee.
I think you can find much cheaper though you can do it yourself. But
i think you should do with a lawyer but defeintly not the expensive
one. Your case is a clear cut case.
