Question:
Sponsored by my naturalized wife, I filed in Nov 99 at Westminster
California, got my work permit in Feb 2000 and got finger printed in
Riverside on Oct 6, 2000. I guess I now have to renew my work permit since
it's only good for a year.
I'm told that it takes 18 months to get your interview, but am not real sure
when the 18 months started. Was it when I first filed or when I got my work
permit? Also, how long after the interview do you get your GC?

It's from when you first filed. You get your GC (or at least the stamp
in your passport equivalent to the GC) on the day you are interviewed
normally.
However, the semi-official estimate at present is that the waiting time
is more like 2.5 to 3 years in your area. And you're leaving the
renewal of the work permit very late; I recommend you file that in the
next day or two, and expect to take some unpaid leave from your job, as
renewing the work permit can easily take a month and a half. (Remember
that when you come to renew your permit at the end of this year.)
I got my GC two days ago!!!
