Question:
If greencard says "Resident since 3/3/02" what date can I apply for
naturalization?
Is it 3/3/07? (five years) Or can I do this a couple of months earlier?
Answer:
you can apply 90 days before the expiration date on your green card. In
your case, you can apply on or after Dec 3, 2006 if your green card is
not based on marriage.
90 days earlier. Though, best to make it slightly <90 in case your math
is wrong...
Note that the date on the card doesn't actually matter much. The date
that counts is the I-485 approval date. The date on the card _should_
match the I-485 approval date, but there have been quite a number of
cases where the date on the GC was different.
Yep -- was three or four days out on mine! I couldn't be bothered to
query it with them and applied using a formula of ((last date mentioned)
+ 5 years - 85 days) just to be on the safe side. Didn't fancy enriching
the coffers of USCIS any more than I already had done.
Not the expiration date!!! You need the "Resident since" date.
That would actually be 90 days before Dec 3, 2007. Not 2006.
Huh? Math: F ;-)
3/3/2002 + 5 years = 3/3/2007
3/3/2007 - 90 days = 12/3/2006
