Question:
Booklet 6 or IMMI Website?
Answer:
Recent work experience
If your nominated occupation is worth 60 points (see the points for your
nominated occupation on the SOL), you must have been in paid employment
in a skilled occupation (any on the SOL) for at least 12 of the 18
months immediately before applying.
If your nominated occupation is worth 40 or 50 points, you must have
been in paid employment in a skilled occupation (any on the SOL) for at
least 2 of the 3 years immediately before applying.
If any one can shed any light onthis it would be helpful as I am on the
verge of taking my 3rd year in a degree and may be getting the wrong
career choice on the sol list. I was looking forward to putting in my
application next July 06.
You're comparing requirements for two different visas.
What you've quoted from the 'Booklet 6' is for the Skilled Designated
Area Sponsored visa (subclass 139). While your 'Immi Website'
requirements are for Skilled Independent (subclass 136), STNI (subclass
137) and Skilled Australian Sponsored (subclass 138) visas.
I clicked on the tab on the IMMI that said basic requirements for
Skilled Designated Area Sponsor and it came up with that quote. I nearly
died! I am frantically looking for a job so that I don't have to do the
last year of my degree and I can go with a 40 pointer but Jobs for these
are very far and few between. Might have to do the last year after all.
It also says below that quote:
"In the Skill Matching or Skilled-Designated Area Sponsored categories,
you may be eligible with less work experience."
You will not get a 40 point skill assessment unless you have the
equivalent of an Australian diploma - and you need to have been awarded
that qualification, no points for incomplete qualifications.
I think you should finish your degree, you could well regret it later on
if you don't.
