Question:
films about immigrants/immigration?
Answer:
I am doing some research on (recent) films about immigrants and/or
immigration. So far I have come up with these films:
Mississippi Masala
Joy Luck Club
Heaven and Earth
Coming to America
Green Card
Avalon
Far and Away
An American Tail
Scarface (1983 w/ Al Pacino)
West Side Story
The Emigrants and The New Land, a pair of Swedish films by Jan Trolle from
the early 70s, with Max Von Sydow and Liv Ullman.

Great Choice! Joe Morton was amazing. He is such an underrated actor. Did one
hell of a job in "City of Hope" and " Lone Star".
Here a couple more choices:
The Godfather Part II
Italian-American
Sophie's Choice
Queen of Hearts
Very nice thread, in which i hope my contribution

Two films recently shown here (Southern California) on immigration
that I found engaging were "Someone Else's America" and "L'america".
SEA starred Tom Conti as a Spaniard living in New York and was about how
he and his friends and family adjusted to America. Pretty good.
L'america isn't actually about America, but rather Albanians trying to
emigrate
to their promised land - Italy. (the title comes from the America being
to Italy early in the century what Italy is to Albania now)
The best film that I have ever seen concerning immigration into the
U.S. is "Santa Fe" by the Austrian director Axel Corti; you will no
doubt have to search to get your hands on a copy of it (it is part of a
magnificent trilogy called "Where To and Back"), but it is well worth
the effort. Otherwise, "El Norte" is the best film readily available on
video.
On a mainstream note, Avalon from Barry Levinson is a nice immigrant
family saga with some very strong performances by an impressive cast
(Armin Muller-Stahl, Joan Plowright, Aidan Quinn)
