I live in a major city in Texas and we have many people here of Hispanic origin, probably close to 25% or 30%. Some are illegal, most are not.

Their general skin color can vary from caucasian white to brown. Their accent is no indication of status either. Where they live is no indication either. Just because a person buses tables at a restaurant is no indication of anything.

Please tell me, how I can simply look at a person and somehow magically know that he or she is an illegal alien?

Ask Them! If they are they will probably be scared and evasive, and if they're not they'll only be offended. Odds are if they're at one of those work pickup sites they are illegal. Its up to you, but suspicious activity always should be reported, for your safety as well as others.

I think I'll report their employers, instead. Probably more productive to eliminate the market for illegal labor than to punish those who are simply trying to make a living.

I can tell from your childish responses, you have never lived in a city which has a large number of people of Hispanic ancestry. You have the immature notion that an illegal can be distinguished from legals, just by looking or listening.

Come to the city I call home, and walk down the streets and ask your questions. These people will NOT be just "offended", they will be angered. I'll give you about 15 minutes before someone, and it may be male or female, has put their fist in your nose.

By the way I don't believe that being an Anchor Baby (Children born to illegals while illegally in the U.S.A.) should qualify you as a U.S. citizen, I suspect that a greater majority of those you consider legal fall into that category than are actually legally processed citizens.

Now that's smart - spend taxpayer money to throw them in jail, then spend taxpayer money to ship them home. Where do you think the "illegals" will get money to pay fines - make 'em work while in jail? Or do we house them - at taxpayer expense - indefinitely? And are taxpayers going to want to construct a whole lot more jails to house illegals? pay more jailers? more immigration police? Will you tolerate the release of real criminals in order to make space for illegal workers?

Those who leap to the punitive solution first are those who lack creativity.

The U.S. is a huge market for illegal labor - eliminate that market and there will be no reason to cross the border. But be prepared to pay more for your food and your pool cleaners.
