How long we should expect to wait after an application has been approved until the visa is issued?
Question:
I am an American married to a Canadian and we just got our approval letter yesterday and it says we have to wait to be contacted about his fingerprints. I know very little about the immigration process and was wondering if anyone knows how long we should expect to wait after an application has been approved until the visa is issued?

Answer:
If you are referring to the approval notice for the I-130, you will probably have your immigrant visa interview scheduled at the U.S. consulate in Montreal in 4 to 6 months. If all goes well, you will receive the immigrant visa right after the interview. The fact that you say that the approval notice refers to fingerprints bothers me a little. Are you perhaps going through the process for the American to immigrate to Canada?
