I am getting my US citizenship. Is there a way for me to renew my Indian passport while I'm still an Indian citizen?
Question:
I will be getting my US citizenship soon. I was wondering if there was a way for me to renew my indian passport now while I'm still an Indian citizen. (it is expiring in Jan). The application does ask if I ever applied for another country's citizenship. Also I don't want to jeopardize my US naturalization. As far as I know the US does allow dual citizenship? Can anyone confirm this. Are there any websites where I can get updated info on India allowing dual citizenship? (I thought about getting a person of Indian origin card but the $1000 is really steep.)

Answer:
I've heard that people who have Indian ancestry but who are citizens of another country can obtain this "Indian Origin" status. What benefits are provided to a person who is holds one of these cards, versus the benefits provided to a person who is a citizen of India? The PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card is similar to a US Permanent Resident card with no time limit for stays outside India. Of course voting is not allowed.
