Question:
I would appreciate your responses on the following question:
I am currently on L1 visa in the US and would like to seek
permanent residency.
Please let me know is it possible to transfer L1 to green card?
Answer:
Yes. Your company must file the forms. You must go through labor
certification, which is not easy to do. Expect a 2 - 3 years timeframe
from start to finish.
Sure, but talk to a lawyer...
You're looking at at least 3 years... This would include Labor
Certification and adjustment of status, so you need to be with the
company for that long.
Also, they should be willing to sponsor you...
I'm not a lawyer, but hope this gets you started.
I have a friend who is in the process of getting
Green Card. He is on L-1 and from UK. His company
states to take care of everything. So he doesn't
know anything, even his file number etc. Is that
all right? How long does it usually take to get
Green Card.
Most L's DO NOT require a Labor Cert.
Under what category the would fall ?
My understanding is that L1-A is for intercompany management, and L1-B
for technical transfers, correct ?
