Question:
I am a Mexican citizen, and a few
years back I married an american
citizen in Mexico. We then moved
to AZ. I was on a tourist visa,
and upon urging by his family, we
got married (again) in the US, since
they told me this would make filing
for my residency easier. However
due to a family emergency we had
to move back to Mexico, and never
filed a single paper. Shortly after,
our marriage fell apart, and we
got a divorce (terminating our mexican
marriage). I never gave a second
thought to the marriage in AZ. I
thought I was going to spend the
rest of my life in Mexico. Until
now, when I am engaged to a man
who is also an american citizen.
Now we want to "do everything right"
(i.e. get a K1 visa and such). So
my question is :
Do I have
to go to Arizona and "terminate"
my American marriage, or will my
Mexican divorce certificate be valid?
It does state that I divorced the
guy I married in AZ after all, right?
