Question:
I am an Irish citizen (Irish born) residing in the US. I have
a young daughter that I wish to get an Irish passport (dual
citizenship) for. Can an application be made anytime for this with
the appropriate birth certificates and so on, assuming the laws are
not changed in the meantime? (I had heard something about an end of
year deadline??).
Answer:
If you are Irish born, your daughter is
automatically considered an Irish Citizen.
An application for citizenship is not necessary. If you need a passport for
her, you merely need to complete the passport
application. I am including some web sites
that may prove informative.

If you have further questions regarding her status as a citizen or where to
get a passport application call-

how far back can you go. i have some maori freinds with irish great
grandparents. could they get a passport?
From what I understand Heron they are not automatically considered a citizen of
Ireland. They may however claim Irish
citizenship through foreign birth registration. You may do this if your
grandparents and in some instances great grandparents were Irish born citizens.
The fact that your friend has two great-grandparents from Ireland instead of
one may benefit him/her. The documentation needed can be painstaking to get.
There are of course costs incurred.
The great-grandparents could if they're alive, or suspended on strings in a
credible manner. The great-grand kids hopefully have no chance

(B) dont think so.

ye know, your right. i read it once and it diddent do me a damm bit of
harm. there you go now.
To my knowledge you can go back as far as an
Irish born grandparent. Note that if you have
an Irish born grandparent you are not automatically
an Irish citizen, you must first apply to be
registered as such, at an Irish consulate.
Persons who have an Irish born parent are
automatically Irish citizens, and do not have to
be registered.
