Question:
Due to some bad advice and misinformation and a bit of my own
procrastination, I'm going to need to use an expeditor to rush thru my
passport and visa.
Anyone out there used those services recently or have any
recommendations for me?
I need BOTH the passport and the visa within 2 weeks.
Answer:
Go to your postoffice and use the Express mail envelope. Prepay for the
one that will be used to return your passport and put it into the one that
you mail to the passport office. Worked well for me and took only five
days, round trip.
I need a USA passport and a visa to South Africa. There are a
number of services listed on the internet for varying fees - all pretty
expensive - and I was curious if anyone had actually used any of them.
They promise return of the passport and visa in 1 day to 1 week or more
depending on the prices.
I recently renewed my passport and the service
was very speedy. To expedite it I sent it by
US Postal Express next day mail and included
a return next day mail (prepaid) envelope. I
included a note saying that I would appreciate
the return of my passport promptly because I
have an 87 year old mother-in-law in England (which is true)
and I was worried that I would not be able to
accompany my husband home should anything
happen to her. They were wonderful.
I also wanted the passport back quickly because
I have "passport-withdrawal" whenever I don't have
it in my possession.
You can download a passport application from the Passport Office's site on
the web. They have information on how you can pay the Government for
expedited service and get your passport almost overnight.
It is very important, however, to follow their instructions exactly. They
will tell you what paper to use e.g. laserjet okay, inkjet not acceptable,
and other specific instructions, such as you must include the downloaded
instruction page.
My wife just received her renewal passport last week using this method,
although we did not need the overnight expedited service. Everything was
perfect. They got it to her well before the date that she indicated it was
needed.
I did not save the web sight URL, but it is readily obtained with a simple
search.
often use them. try generations in d.c., 1-800-845-8968. cheapest
that i've found (which does not guarantee they are the cheapest). fee
includes express return mail. i have no financial interest etc. etc.
The website URL is:

They have listings for passports, visa information, and lots of other
State Department stuff
