Question:
Now, i want to know: is it Ok to travel without the actual Card, just
with the stamp on my passport?
Normally, airlines scanned my card earlier when i travelled out of US
last year. Also when i changed my plane[transit] i was asked about the
Card.. Plus. when i was returning i was asked, at the time of boarding
the plane, about my Card.
Answer:
i went to local office with the I-751 PR approval letter without
infopass.
the front officer took in the letter,my old 2yrs card and 2 passport
pics.she also took my finger prints on some paper and my signature.after
that she stamp my passport with i-551.she told me that card will be
mailed in 2months or so. she also mentioned that i can travel overseas
with that stamp.
I didnt make a copy of my approval letter.

i am kind of newrvous!
My husband is in the same situation; waiting for the 10-year card to
come and only a passport stamp as evidence of status.
The officer at our District Office told us it was OK to travel on.
In fact he said it had better be, because that's all the husband
gets for now.
A legitimately issued I-551 stamp in the pasport is the documentary
equivilant of the Green Card.
You either have to travel, or you don't. I would not have any problem
with my husband traveling outside the US with just the stamp as that has
been done by many, many people in the past without a problem.
Shame on you for not making a copy of your letter! :) You should know
differently by now, lol
PS: we've been waiting for the replacement card since August and it's
till not here. The i-551 stamp my hsuband got was valid for only 6
months instead of the one year he's received before. How long is
your stamp valid for? And don't be surprised if your card takes more
than 2 months to arrive.
I travelled out of the country and back with just the stamp, before my
greencard arrived. No problems.

I know, as everyone says, its ok to travel with 551 stamp, but i'd
like to hear from the people who actually travelled outside with just
the stamp!
Stamp on my passport is valid for a year.
