Question:
i talked to my lawyer today and he said immigration has yet again
changed things. AOS paperwork is no longer sent to missouri but instead
goes to chicago? he said the last 2 he sent in has been denied cuz
apparantly no one knows about the change. he said it is supposed to be
faster for EAD but it is too soon to tell yet. has anyone heard of this?
also......
my wifes passport expires in 05' what do we do to renew it? how long
does it take?
Answer:
Yes, it's true about sending AOS paperwork to Chicago now. Check
www.uscus.gov for details..it's right on their front page. I haven't
heard of anyone getting denied after sending to Chicago, but then again
it's only been in effect for 3 weeks or so now.
Where is your wife from? Is the the alien or the USC? Sorry...I can't
tell from your post.
Any other paperwork needed ... other than what?
Your attorney is on the ball. The Chicago lockbox went into effect a
few weeks ago.
As for your wife's Austrian passport, have her check her country's
Consulate pages here in the US to detemine what she needs to do to renew
her passport.
Don't mean to be nitpicky but your link has a typo. It's www.uscis.gov
;) She won't mind. I was going to correct the link as well. That's one
of those "oops" mistakes you smack yourself in the head for.
Brian, I think as long as her passport is good for 6 months at the time
of the AOS interview, she can still use it for the I-551 stamp. However,
you'd probably be better off renewing it now, so that you don't have to
worry about her carrying an expired and unexpired passport if/when she
wants to travel outside the US (and assuming she hasn't received her
Green Card yet).
Little difficult to receive a green card if you haven't applied for
AOS yet ;-)
If she doesn't have a passport at the time of the interview they will
give her an I-551 on an I-94 card instead.
OOPS! *smacks self in head* LOL That's what happens with late-night
typing. Thanks for the correction, guys :)
