Question:
My fiancee in St. Petersburg is
divorced and when you divorce in
Russia the authorities take the
original marriage certificate back.
She does have a photo copy but it
is not the original nor is it certified.
She has gone to the office where
these records are kept and a copy
is all that she can get from them
and apparently they do not notarize
the copies.
Anybody out
there been through this before?
I am not sure what to suggest she
do next, she has run out of ideas
too. Will the Embassy waive this
requirement if they are contacted
in advance and maybe send us something
in writing to the effect that this
requirement is waived?
Answer:
From the 9FAM file for russian consulate,
it says this: Birth, Marriage, Divorce
and Death Certificates (TL:VISA-165;
5-2-97) Available. Certified copies
of these documents may be obtained
by ap-plying to the Bureau of Acts
of Civil Status (ZAGS) of the locality
having custody of the records.
