Summary:
U.S. Senators John Mc Cain (R-AZ) and Edward Kennedy
(D-MA)[1] have introduced a new bill in the U.S. Senate
that would provide illegal immigrants a way to become
eligible for U.S. Citizenship. The Senate version of
this bill titled "The Secure America and Orderly
Immigration Act of 2005" would allow working illegal
immigrants who pay a $1,500 fine and who have a clean
criminal record, to be eligible to register for a
6 year temporary work visa call a H-5A - which would
cost another $500 (totalling $2,000 ). At the end
of the six years, they would be allowed into a
process that would lead to citizenship. The bill
initially limits to the number of H-5A visas to
400,000. The bill does not limit H-5A visa to only
illegal immigrants. While the story focuses on the
illegal immigration provisions of this bill the
new immmigration bill covers much more that, e.g.
immigration border patrols.
