Question:
Tom Tancredo has dropped out of the news. I wonder if Bush has finally
got to him? I would have thought for sure he would have some comment on
Mexican trucks allowed to go anywhere in the United States.
Answer:
Maybe, but it is also vacation time for politicians. Actually, if I
remember correctly from other posters here, Tancredo is/was a NAFTA
supporter and might actually think the trucks are okay. From what I've
heard from people who used to be associated with him, Tancredo actually
supports high immigration levels too -- just not illegal immigration.
He supports massive reduction in legal as well as illegal immigration:
He also supports a 5-year moratorium on legal immigration, with the moratorium
then only being lifted after certain conditions are met.

Immigration Reform Caucus:

"The Caucus will focus on the explosive growth of legal immigration.
The Caucus will promote legislation to reduce the overall number of
immigrants allowed into the country...
The Caucus will highlight the continuing growth in illegal immigration
through an aggressive press and member education operation.
The caucus will also push for legislation to deny American citizenship
to the American-born children of illegal aliens.
This is one time that being wrong feels good. I got that information from
a Denver radio talk show host who said that he once worked with Tancredo in
some sort of business/economic development organization and that Tancredo,
at the time this person worked with him, supported an increase in legal
immigration. I don't know if Tancredo changed his position on legal
immigration (this may have been before Tancredo was elected to Congress), or
if this person was mistaken or misinformed. I'm fairly certain I heard
correctly, but should have verified that it was indeed Tancredo's current
position.
This makes those "Tancredo for President" bumper stickers that I've heard
about seem even more attractive. I've never actually seen one, so I hope
they really do exist No doubt that he would have my vote if he decided to
go for it.
