Question:
Wanted to know if I can get any additional points for post graduate work
permit which is valid for one year after graduation and does not require
HRDC's opinion? If yes then how much? I have a post graduate work permit
valid for one year.
I have already applied for PR to Buffalo?
Answer:
The post-graduate work permit doesn't qualify as arranged employment, thus
no points will be given in the Arranged Employment factor.
Once you complete full year of authorized work in Canada you may be eligible
for 5 points in the Adaptability factor.
One more question...I am in Canada and my work permit is expiring in
September 03. I want to do a part-time course (25 weeks duration) in Oracle
Certification from Humber College. Can I apply for a study permit for
part-time studies considering I will have no status after expiry of current
work permit? Will a study permit be granted for part-time studies?
You don't need a student permit for this, but you need to have valid status
in Canada. Thus you must apply for extension/change of your temporary status
as soon as possible (at least 5 weeks prior to expiration).
What documents do I need to send to extend my status in Canada? Do they need
an offer of admission from Humber College alongwith the application form of
will they extend it if I tell them that I plan to take up a part-time course
at Humber? It's a silly question but just want to confirm before I move
forward. My employer has applied to HRDC for renewal of work permit and am
desperatly hoping for a positive reply otherwise I'll have to move very fast
on extending my status to study here.
Will CIC extend my status even if I am going to study part-time in a
post-graduate program i.e. Oracle Database Certification course?
Sorry for so many questions...in a tight situation so am getting a bit
paranoid as days tick by.
Go to CIC website and get the extension of stay/change of conditions
application package - everything is there.
Just be honest with reasons why you want the extension and/or change. But
keep in mind that if you have a pending PR application and your real reason
for extension is to wait in Canada for the conclusion of this process then
you may be out of luck.
Contrary to was postred previously you do need a Student Permit as the
exemption applies to persons who want to study for less than 6 months on
initial entry as visitors. You are applying to extend status to study and
therefore must apply for a SP. You can do so from within canada as you hold
a valid Work Permit. In any event a SP gives you more flexibility to apply
for further SPs or WPs form with in Canada which a Visitor record would not
do
Thank you so much again for your prompt response. I came across a very good
full-time 3 semesters post-graduate program regarding advanced web
development and security...the skills which I don't have at the moment. I am
currently working as a web/software developer so this 3 semester program
will add more value. Will that be a good enough reason?
Also I am waiting for my immigrant visa...CIC mentions that it is the
responsibility of the applicant to maintain their legal status while in
Canada waiting for the visa process to be completed. If this is the case
then why would it cause a problem for me if I seek a new visa and student
authorization for the above mentioned program?
Also once I send in the application for new visa...i understand that I can
wait in the country until CIC replies to my application? If CIC refuses me
the visa and I have over-stayed while waiting for their reply to my
application will it show adversly on my in future whenever I apply to come
to Canada for a visit or any other purpose? I hope not! Would be glad to get
some clarification regarding the above. I'd rather leave Canada then break
the law which may affect me forever whenever I wish to visit Canada in the
future.
